Hello, I'm just curious to know how to know whats worth it or not when it comes to a coin having any sort of errors. An example to explain what I'm trying to ask is,say you have a coin thats a DD, does it have to be so noticeable to have value or is it just considered DD if its even barely noticeable or seen when magnified? Would it need to be entire words or doesn't matter if was just a single letter in a word? I'm sure the more noticeable or etc, the more value it adds but just trying to get a general sense of how to determine myself whether it adds enough value to be worth having it graded or choosing close to the value its worth if selling. I hope I was able to describe that well enough to understand, obviously just more of a beginner thats wanting to expand my knowledge in collecting. I always just hung onto anything, whether significant or only seen if magnified, now I'm wondering if I have been holding on to more then I should. Its not important to have big value to me, I just enjoy doing it mainly, but I also don't want to be holding onto something thinking it has some value and it doesn't. If its still hard to understand, just let me know and I'll try to word it better for anyone, or feel free to ask questions to help clarify and Ill try again, appreciate any help or knowledge to learn regardless &

It really depends on the demand and collectibility of that particular Doubled Die and other varieties. Same goes with genuine error coins. Minor Doubled Dies don't carry much of a premium usually. The major Doubled Dies are usually worth the most. As it goes with most coins, most of them aren't worth slabbing, as getting a coin slabbed by a TPG is very expensive.

First of all, a DD is not an error, it is a variety, big difference. Yes, there are some Doubled Dies that are worth money but the majority are fairly common without much of a premium. As far as magnification, TPG's only use a 5X when they look at coins so if it can't be seen at that power, then it won't be recognized.

I agree with above. Where you sell the coin also can make a difference. Finding the right market for your coin will get you the most for it.
Like I watch a auctions on a site that is primarily estate auctions and I got deals on some coins. Since New Year's though, people have gone nuts paying way more than values I find for coins. I even saw a reprocessed 1943 cent sell for over $20.

Good information from everyone above. I do not know what your level of understanding is for errors and varieties but that would be the first step, educating yourself, so you know what you are looking at, when you think you have found something. After this, you can determine it's worth by posting it on this site or looking at past sales on ebay and the such to see what they sold for. As stated above, typically, the more extreme it is, the more it can be worth, whether it's a variety or an error. I have provided a link below from a thread I started a few years ago, it will take you to a list of different sites to visit in order to educate yourself. LINK http://goccf.com/t/404178&whichpage=28

Sorry I must have worded it wrong, wasn't meaning for it to say a DD and error were the same thing, I was trying to just list dif examples of all dif things because anything is worth learning about. Just used DD for explanation. Ive learned how to find the correct pricing more on ebay after learning the hard way of typing one in and thinking I hit the jackpot lol. All answers I appreciate from you guys though, I just have some that have a few letters you can see the double in or maybe some words and wasnt sure if even worth holding onto. Man, what site was selling the 43s for that, I have a bunch they can buy that are still original& ..Im having a hard time knowing how to know the dif whether its a wear and tear scratch or die cracks, if I'm correct there lol. New to this so apologies if I was way off there lol.
