Spots hold this back. I would guess a market grade of MS-64. The doubling in the date is pretty strong as well.

I thought the same, then I see examples like this with a MS67+. It's hard to compare with coinfact images to your coin.

That's a pretty nice looking cent - It should easily make 65. With the dings and spots I don't know about a 66 though.

Well I don't know how PCGS would grade this
But from photos I'm in at 66/67. Closer to 67 pending how many little nicks are in the field.

waiting for the big hitter to voice their opinion.

Just read other comments....

Where are these spots at? I'm not seeing any and the nicks, I see 1 on Abes shoulder and 2 or 3 on his neck and 1 that has affected columns 4 and 5...

From which TPG? There's a nick right on the steps and looks to be split plating cracks on the obverse.

Left click on the picture - unless you're on a phone, then that magnifies the picture - you can see the spots and nicks.

Clean coin, very nice. Lots of high grade MS67/68 examples available this year/mint however.

are you referring to the image below cointagous's post ? With all the black spots on the reverse? That's PCGS's graded 67+ example.

I clicked on posters Photos to zoom in and only see a few nicks (as stated)....

Wow, beautiful example and excellent pictures!

First off, I can tell you from personal recent experience - PCGS does not like the galling (or whatever it's called) in the fields along the obverse rim. It's like an automatic knock to 65 or lower. The few spots are not a problem, most of it's being amplified by HQ pictures, there's technically like 2 minor spots on the obverse and they aren't bad. The remarkable thing is the lack of hits - two light column dings is about it. I see why you took the time to post, it's a super nice example!

PCGS MS-65

Finding an 89 P or D without those dreaded gas bubbles is very tough. Even the highest graded examples have them. Under certain conditions they seem to amplify the luster and the TPGs like luster.

Personally, I don't like plating bubbles and my challenge through the series has been finding examples with no or minimal bubbles. You found a needle in the haystack, don't sweat a miss with the TPGs!

I forgot what mine looked like, had to dig into the archives (notice mine is still raw - no point in disappoint, but I don't have any bubbles! - lolol):

Thank you for this, this helps a lot when looking at the coins I do have and deciding which ones to grade.

I don't even know what I mean anymore, pictures are being added to this post faster than the Cleveland Cavaliers can score points in the first quarter..........
