Hey Is this authentic? This is not my coin, but someone wanted me to find out if it was real or not. If it is real, what would it be worth? Thanks

I know absolutely nothing about these coins. How much did he purchase it for? The level of detail seems too good to be true for a coin of such age. It also appears to be counter stamped with a star. I'm fairly certain that this isn't an original.

looks fake, check the edges and can you post bigger pictures? You have bigger background than the coin.

Looks okay to me. 8 Reales minted in Mexico so to speak (Mo mint mark on reverse). Don't know about the counter strike. It was pretty common back then. Nice looking coin. It's a keeper. To grade can you get larger pics Also how did your friend acquire?

Hair is wrong, front of armor is wrong but most of all the "smile" is wrong. Best thing to do is weigh the coin (28 grms) and then post larger pictures, including a picture of the edge. My vote is with Manilla, coin is fake.

swamperbob is the leading authority on these, he will tell you as much as can be told from the pictures, in the meantime I must say I myself find this coin highly suspiciuos. Most probably a fake. But I have been wrong before.
You should not only weigh the coin but also try the specific gravity test to see if this is silver. A comtemporary counterfeit would use another metal. And they are valuable. A modern counterfeit has no value to speak of, besides being reference material.

The 1778 is a counterfeit - the King's mouth is incorrect. There are also problems along the edge, but I would have to see a clearer picture to comment further. I would also like to see edge pictures.
Based on what I see it was made by a transfer process but the mouth came out weak and it was tooled in without knowing what it looked like on an original. MANY Chinese counterfeits have the identically shaped mouth.
The edge design is most likely incorrect and I would guess the spectifc gravity will be low as well.
This is NOT a contemporary circulating counterfeit either. It is modern and is a numsmatic forgery. The value is a few dollars over actual metal content. The value is primarily for the information the coin contains about forgery and how to AVOID similar types.

Carolus was not that handsome, but this looks like a Hirschfeld caricature of Eddie Cantor.
Forgers with a sense of humor. I like that.
