Can anyone tell me if the eagle on the reverse has re engraved feathers? Also the mouth of the bird is showing the same effects. Thanks!   |

Odd to have so many die chips in the feathers, but I agree with @mc that the line along the beak is a small die crack connecting a series of small die chips. Could the bumps in the feathers be the result of exposure to a corrosive environment?

My guess would be circulation flattening. I agree that we need a wide view of the coin faces to better understand the phenomenon.

Can you please post full obverse and reverse pictures? We need a full reverse picture to tell if the feathers are re engraved.
On the eagle's beak, there's a Die Crack and Die Chip.

2000 P Sac dollar and the posters is asking a question about re engraved feathers....could they be thinking of the Cheerios dollar? If so would need a shot of the eagles tail feathers. If questioning breast and wing feathers-----looks like circulation wear to me.

To me, the bumps appear to be the feather high points that have been flattened by circulation wear. Although I cannot readily explain why some feather details have disappeared, and others have been flattened and mangled flat. PCGS doesn't have any examples below AU58, and I'm honestly not familiar with what a typical circulated Sacagawea dollar looks like. |
