I came across this one987 penny. That has a line/marking that goes around about half of the people penny. It is also on the reverse of it. I am new at this. I would appreciate any help at identifying what this line or marking would be.

That's called a Ridge Ring, it's a form of Die Deterioration. The die was simply worn out and beginning to fail.

Yes, a ridge ring--a sure sign of Die Deterioration.

A Ridge Ring has no value as it is part of the minting process. It's a spender.
