*** Edited by Staff to Add Denomination to Title. It's essential to have it in the title. ***

See picture this 1909 VDB penny has a repunched "D" or a dropped "D" but then polished away by mint workers on the reverse in the middle of the coin. It's between the two " N's" in the words CENT and ONE

@obi, it is good to have an overall pic, but @nic is right that a close-up is really needed to assess what is going on with your cent. Pls remove from the shiny plastic holder when you photograph your coins. Thx.

To help move the discussion along, I have taken your current image and cropped, enlarged, and enhanced it. I can see a vaguely-D shaped mark on the surface of the coin. The most simple explanation is that this is just a stray circulation mark, but again having a proper close-up image would be nice.

for now, I'll go with a circulation hit.
But we need much better images to see what you do.

From the blurry enlarge picture I can see your D but I also see at the tips of the two N"s 793, also RO between the NE in one. If I drink more coffee I will probably see more stuff. A clear close up picture I hope will prove my consumption is to much and a result of just being cross eyed.

Almost looks like a quasi-D was formed from displaced metal.

Not much better. But I zoomed and cropped it - looks like a hit combined with Pareidolia.

Bigfoot?
Everyone knows Bigfoot never lived near Philly in 1909.
I think GreasyF is talking about flat, squared off rims and the possibility of that being a diagnostic for a proof.
