It looks like a circulation hit that split the tail of the 9.

I don't know - it might be metal movement but the 9 is thin to begin with. I don't know where that much metal would come from.

With this amount of circulation wear it is hard to know for sure. I'm on team damage for this one. Even if it is a tiny die crack though, I don't think that there is a numismatic premium.

Very interesting coin. I am going to say because it is in line with the bottom leg of the nine, it could have been dropped when it was struck and transferred to this location. Look at the leg of two, it seems to have less metal on it.
