I got some great feedback on my previous post of the 1927 P Peace dollar about it being cleaned that has been helpful for me in learning more about cleaning and what to look for.

What are your thoughts on the grade for this 1923 P Mercury dime?

Some additional things I'm wondering:

What might the pinkish film on the coin be? The black spots? Are these things that could be helped by an acetone bath?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like a slider - AU/MS. That is one nice looking all-original coin. Black spots hard to tell without a close-up, everything else is just toning. Personally I would not monkey with it but if you feel compelled, Acetone bath may provide a slight change in appearance.
I swing a metal detector and have a knack for finding dirty old coins.

Thank you, DOCC! Here are some closer pictures of the black spots, though I'm not sure how much they will help.

The pinkish "tone" almost appears like a "haze," which is why I wondered if it is something on the coin.

I support an acetone bath on this. Most likely it will enhance the luster despite the toning and while it won't erase the black spots it will probably make them less visually distracting. I agree with AU slider for grade with nice split bands.

being a mid/high AU coin the FB designation does not apply but it is a plus for her. the 16D and 42/41 OD's can however receive the designation in AU condition

i'd call her AU55/58 based on these photos but I would acetone her and repost as I'm not ruling out this coin is a lower MS coin at this time. The coin may just have been improperly stored

I agree with panzaldi, an acetone is a must for this one. May be MS.
