I'm perplexed. If anyone recalls my post from a few months back, VF or XF is not a concern, I thought it was a weak strike XF, some agreed, some thought it VF. But the reason for the details - are you joking? Hey TPGs, you monitoring? Create a new category: DETAILS: Population Control Half of me has to wonder if whomever is hoarding these O115-A's has some sway at NGC....I might just yank the sale and get a different opinion.

I don't understand why they detailed it. The reverse isn't scratched up that bad.

The 4 dings across the breast/wing can be the only thing they are calling graffiti

What is the mark on the obverse? die crack, scratch, or is it on the holder? As far as the reverse, they are calling those small scratches above the eagle graffiti? C'mon NGC! Probably an old cleaning like many other CBH's but graffiti?

It must be for those scratches above the eagle. That does look like a W to the left. Unfortunate grade, but it's still a fantastic coin, DOCC.

MisterT - O115-a is a rim to rim die crack - pop with NGC/PCGS is less than 20

@DOCC, thank you for the clarification. I have some bust halves but I am not well versed in the Overton varieties. Less than 20 slabbed, sounds good to me. One in my collection which I cherish is the 18 over 7.

Thx Hondo. The inconsistency is just so, so tiring. I can point out 100's of CBH in straight holders with far worse. Also, just look at all the VaultBox stuff that straights which should NEVER be anything other than details.

No surprise on the grade, those are not insignificant scratches above the eagle. Reminds me of the 1814 E/A I posted on here awhile back. I returned that coin as there was no getting past the graffiti.

These scratches don't look random to me, hence the graffiti designation, IMO. I would add, given the state of the rest of the coin, how did this relatively tiny section of the reverse field end up this way, just does not seem random.

Studied this coin for too long... here's what I got, who's G W Williams and why did he scribe his name into this coin? The G is above the eagles right wing...the W in front of his beak and Williams starts above the head and runs down and ends at the left wing. Like I said looked a long time to find the "graffiti" and maybe Pareidolia set in.

GreasyF, that does look like a bit like a G ( or an O or C) in addition to two Ws followed by whatever after that.

Engraved letters above the eagle would be my best guess. Unfortunately at times, coins need to be sent in more than once.
