These two 1990 American Eagles are currently listed on Great Collections, and they're housed in comment-free PCGS slabs. I'd be interested in hearing thoughts on what you think about the toning of these coins. BTW, the current bids on these are $3300 (PCGS MS68) and $1200 (PCGS MS66), not including buyer's fees.

Toning looks artificial to me.

Somebody got those to tone in a pattern reminiscent of the US flag design. It is hard to imagine that occurring naturally. :)

And PCGS didn't details these?

Quote: And PCGS didn't details these? Nope, that's one reason I shared this, Hondo. I was quite surprised, so say the least.

Hokie, do you think that if you or I submitted an ASE like this to PCGS that it would straight-grade? I have the feeling that it wouldn't.

Tell me that pattern on the upper right is anything but a chemical. They look like they were toned on my bbq grill. Pretty but I will never understand how we accpet this as slab worthy. I remember this being referred to as circus toning. I see at least another in the sale that looks to have been gassed thru the slab. I love toning, just the kind that takes about 100 years to do.

Saw them and a few others. Natural toning? I think not.
