Given the small size of these coins, they surely must have been easy to lose, so were people during the time reluctant to use them? Are their any contemporary complaints about them? Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 07/31/2025 02:06 am Yes they were easy to use, I'm not aware of specific complaints but they probably exist, and probably the majority of the Type III coins ended up being used for jewelry. There are records in the Mint archives about it and one of the reasons for their discontinuance was because many were just being siphoned off for the jewelry trade. Report this Post to the Staff
