With a total mintage of just 16,795 why isn't this set or at least the coins worth a lot more than they sell for?

The simple answer is even though a small number were produced, supply still exceeds demand.

It's not the rarity it's the collectability that is more important.

I have two sets. One I bought from the Mint, the other I bought already graded by PCGS.

The OGP sets are still affordable, but the graded set was a lot more than what I paid the Mint for my OGP set. Yes, I bought the coin/medal and the slab. but it is what I wanted.

Given the subject matter, I would expect nothing less.

I have two sets as well, both purchased directly from the Mint. I do have a slabbed Ike medal from the set that I bought off of ebay for my slabbed Ike set.

Also, this is my 12,345th post! A true ladder!

If I had to guess, it has to be that 30th anniversary ASE.

Correctomundo!
Since the mint never made a 30th Anniversary set, it's always good to have the sets that the lettered edge was in. This one is really not thought of a lot. The annual Uncirculated dollar set is another.

The OGP outer sleeve is the hard part about that set. It's made with the suede sort of finish. Any sort of tape or decal on it and it really makes it look bad, or any rough handling.

Indeed. I am extra careful when handling my C&C sets, but at least the Reagan is tri-fold. The corners can get beat on the bi-fold sets if you do not insert them carefully.
