Well, its definitely not the Doubled Monticello. That's the most dramatic doubled die in the Jefferson series, and there would be no doubt. Although there are also a number of minor 1939 doubled dies, I have to agree that this looks more like Machine Doubling. The doubling is flat, much lower than the parent device, and the width of the parent device seems to be reduced. In the future, please rotate the lettering to an upright position. That makes it easier to compare side-by-side with the variety coin catalogs. You are definitely looking in the right places to detect doubled dies! |

 Like others have mentioned, they are pretty easy to spot. Especially noticeable in the last O in Monticello. There's also a quadruple die reverse on the 1939, but my old eyes haven't found one yet. |

Thank you all for the warm welcome! After a whole lot more research, I've discovered that it's not a Double Monticello, but it is a DDR-009, I'm almost certain. I plan to take it to my local coin shop on Tuesday and let them examine it further. I'll update you all with what I find out!

DDR-009 has thickness on EPU, specifically on RIB and the N on Unum. The listing doesn't mention anything about the O of Monticello.
Good luck at the coin shop. The ones I have visited seem to have almost no knowledge of varieties, especially minor varieties.

Okay, I understand that maybe its not the exact DDR-009 but I'm almost 1000% sure that it is a DDR, and if this is the case... Is it worthy of grading? I've had it 36 years and it's never been cleaned in any way. |

It is not a DDR and not worth $55-60.00 getting it graded. As explained, it is worthless Machine Doubling. |

It's not a DDR as stated. It's Machine Doubling. Not worth grading at all. Save your time and money. Errers and Varietys.

Y'all must be seeing something I can't because I've gone through over 250 Nickels with a 30x magnifier and this is the only Nickel I have seen that has these markings. If Machine Doubling is so common, why is this the only one I have? I appreciate everyone's input but I'm still gonna have my Coin shop look it over, just in case! Thanks again all... |
