Hi. Apologies for the lack of detail.
Hopefully I didn't add too many pictures.
I'm new here and have questions about this 1984 P Quarter I found in change today.
The back of the coin seems normal as it should be, but the face is definitely not right.
Basically, based on the pictures, what are the issues that pop out with this quarter?
I'm not experienced enough to know the terminology, yet.
But, the "p" mint mark appears to be filled in.
There's also several crosshatch looking lines in various places on the front of the coin. Pretty sure those imperfections are not all from being a circulated coin.
Not worried about value so much, just more curious if this is indeed an error coin and what the errors are called.
I realize it's circulated and not in the best condition.
The front seems to have some irregular scraping as well as like die issues of some sort.
The "In God We Trust" doesn't look right. Possible the "e" in we is simply scratched/damaged. The :I and possibly n seem weakly stamped also.
The T and Y in LIBERTY also don't seem very strong, as well as the presence of the lines and discoloration.
Take a look and let me know what you folks see. Maybe it's just a used and abused coin.
Thanks for the help.
If any further info or pix are required, let me know.
Steve

Interesting. I'm seeing a good amount of circulation wear/damage/flattening, perhaps with some obverse Die Deterioration as well. Obverse also has a minor misaligned die look.

If the long, parallel lines are raised off the field and pass under the devices, they could be die scratches. If they are raised and radiate outwards from the center, it's probably Die Deterioration. Anything scratched into the coin surface is almost certainly post-mint circulation damage.

The feathering effect around Washington's profile suggests Die Deterioration to me.

About the "filled P", it is very common for that tiny post on the die to break. The hole in the mint mark is one of things that gets worn flat from circulation handing, and on quarters it is directly in the path of Coin Wrapping Machine scrapes.

To CCF! Just a combination of circulation wear and Die Deterioration. The P is showing a broken post, which is very common and adds no value. Just a spender.

Feeder finger damage, also called accidental die abrasion.

Running diagonally from SW to NE and hitting only the high spots on the die.
