Recently, I was allowed to go through an estate coin collection and came upon this Lincoln Penny mule coin. The collection has been in the family for 60 years. The Obverse of Lincoln is also on the reverse, but at a 45% angle. The coin looks authentic, and I can not find a seam. But the weight is low.. 2.87 gr.

What are your opinions please. Thanks

It's a " Magicians coin" - in your first picture you can see the seem around the rim where the Cents were fitted together after machining.

There appears to be a seam on the first photo around where the field meets the edge. Need close up to tell.

I must admit my heart raced when I first saw it. But knew it was to good to be true.

By the way, a mule coin is one where the hammer die for one coin is inadvertanly used with the anvil die of a different coin. I don't think that it's possible to use two hammers or two anvils to strike a coin.

Here's a PCGS list of mule coins.
Washington quarter struck with two 25-cent eagle reverse dies.
Roosevelt dime struck with two 10-cent reverse dies.
(2000-P) Sacagawea dollar reverse die paired with a 50 State Quarter obverse (unquestionably the most famous of the U.S. mules).
1993-D Lincoln Cent struck with dime reverse die.
(1995) Roosevelt dime struck with dime reverse and a 1995 Lincoln Cent obverse.
2014-D Sacagawea dollar obverse paired with a Presidential dollar reverse (a recent discovery coin).
2001-D Lincoln Cent obverse paired with a Roosevelt dime reverse (new discovery).
2000-P Jefferson nickel struck with two obverse Jefferson nickel dies.

Very interesting, Petespockets55. It would seem that o/o and r/r die combinations are more common than I believe.

I would love to hear how exactly how any of the mule coin dies were "accidentally" set up!
