I'm not 100% convinced it's the overdate variety. The hook doesn't begin right at the tip of the 3, and I don't see any sign of the flat base of the 2 in the bottom inner loop. It might be the known variety with a die gouge or break that mimics the 3/2 overdate. Very close call either way.

The Wexler catalog lists markers, but I imagine that circulation wear has erased them from this coin. PCGS TrueView does have a few worn examples for comparison: https://www.pcgs.com/cert/39414759https://www.pcgs.com/cert/39414758

I'm thinking it's a legit 3 over 2.

In this condition it makes it so much harder to tell but I will have to agree at this point with Zurie and earlier with stoneman (stoneman is an underrated coin ologist that I would not doubt). I would like to see the mimic that was verified in better condition to compare though. uruman, can you make out any of the DDO to help with your attribution? I know it's a very circulated coin but maybe try.

Well to my eyes, it looks good, but VV won't open up for me today to make a comparison

Here are closeups of the date from Variety Vista, PCGS, and the OP's coin. For me the major issues are; 1. There's no flat base of the 2 in the bottom loop of the 3. 2. The start of the hook doesn't begin right at the tip of the 3. 3. The angle of the hook points slightly north of where it should be pointing. Admittedly, it's much harder to tell for sure on a circulated coin, but I still lean towards this being the die break version rather than the overdate. Still a cool coin.
