Hard to say what it is from that photo.
Shoot your pictures straight on, not on an angle
and lighten it up. It is too dark to see the detail.

Sheer guess is that there was coin wrapping damage between TRUST and 1987; zinc rot is setting in where the copper plating was scratched and compromised.

Plating issues and a Ridge Ring. The Ridge Ring is a Die Deterioration issue.
