I've read the opinion articles about plating issues post 1983 Lincoln Cents. I understand the alloy mix imperfections causing lamination issues in the solid copper alloy coins. What I am not real clear on is plating imperfections not being referred to as a lamination peal, Is the electroplating adhered to the Zinc planchet material in the plating process? If that plating does not adhere properly and peals off; is that not a lamination peal? This is still a pre minting process that to me should still make these coins a minting process error. These coins are treated as not having the importance or value of pre 1983 Lincolns. I have been collecting these little copper discs for 70 years and still things occur that I don't fully understand.

I see this and the coins in EnVs link more as PMD and not a minting error. T me seems like the coin received a deep scratch that penetrated through to the zinc core and the environment took over causing the plating to lift....that's how I see it.

Looks a lot like damage to me too.

Interesting piece. Would love to see it in-hand. For now, I agree with GreasyFingers.

Errers, thanks for the Link you posted. ERROR-REF.COM is one place I had not checked. Their posting about Cracked and Peeling Plating covers my question very well. With Mike Diamond at the top of the list of contributors, it gives the group cred, I would say. The definition they give is: Definition: Plating that cracks or peels up before or after the strike. Among copper-plated zinc cents, this type of plating error is comparatively rare.
