I like this coin for sharpness (low AU I think), but I think it's been cleaned at some point. Obverse fields show marks. Fairly common date. I have a low bid in on it. Thoughts?

That's a nice looking coin with a great circulation cameo. Several of the reverse dies for 1882 have weak strikes, but this one is definitely a strong reverse. If there was a cleaning, it looks market acceptable to my eyes. I'm not sure of the exact variety designation for this one, but it's one of the several downward sloping dates with the broken top of the 2. If the price is right, it has the eye appeal.

very nice strike. I also agree that even if it was cleaned it would grade straight. AU53 possibly AU55

Didn't get it. Dealer stepped in at the end of the auction. I stood pretty tall, but it passed me by.

Well, rats!

You have a good eye for quality. Take your time and continue the search. There's another one out there that needs a good home.
