I recently picked up this Hesse-Kassel, 1767 1/8 Thaler issued by Friedrich II, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel. I always thought a Landgrave was one of the cool named titles of nobility. Ranking below a duke but higher than a count (but roughly similar to a Margrave or a Count Palatine) Landgrave's apparently owed their feudal duty directly to the Holy Roman Emperor, rather than being subservient to an intermediate power like a duke or bishop
