Did you check it with a magnet or weigh it? I would have to say it is plated and it is much shinier than a zinc plated steel cent should be.
Rest in Peace

Looks like a steelie but check it with a magnet. It might be plated also. If it is steel it'll probably be a new discovery. Good Luck.

I just check with the magnet-it hold the coin, not with strong power, but definitely attract it, don't have no chance to weight it, but in the hand it's about the same like copper cent.

Most likely nickel plated. Pure nickel is magnetic, plates to copper well and a thin layer will attract a magnet.
An actual steelie would "snap" to the magnet and be hard to separate.

I was going to say that it look like some Cents that I have seen that were mercury rubbed! However, then the OP stated that it sticks to a magnet, so I think that throws my theory out the door!

I have some Wheaties, that were plated and look exactly like this coin. These were given to me from my friend/dealer in a bag marked " check for errors". Some clipped planchets, and bie's and plated LMC'S, even some hollowed out cents and dimes. It looks like,
Some people have lots of time to "play" with things like this..

I found a 1952 cent in a bank roll just like this, but not as shiny. Probably plated.
