Here is a pretty little coin. This 3-year type has the same weight (5.00 grams) and fineness (90% silver) as the American 20-cent piece of 1875-1878. The same design was used on the 10 and 50-centavo coins plus the 1 peso coin from the same period. By 1896 Argentina had phased out precious metals and never again used silver in circulation issues.

Very nice indeed. Argentina silver coins are tough to come by (I'm still looking for a peso example). Is there any edge lettering?

Ken_3567,
Unlike the plain-edge U.S. 20-cent piece, this coin has a reeded edge. There is no edge lettering.

The Argentina silver 1-peso coins are relatively scarce and expensive, but the 10, 20, and 50-centavo pieces are readily available and shouldn't cost too much. I see them offered on ebay fairly often.

Much appreciated...Argentina is one of the last crown sized coins I need for an America's set of crowns.
