I've been working on wheats lately and have pulled out some interesting errors except I'm uncertain about this one. I'm wondering if this would be a clipped planchet or something done post minting? It doesn't have a curve to the cut like I have seen on other examples which makes me think it's not a clipped planchet, but again, I'm unsure.
thanks,
Rock

Looks snipped not clipped. Clipped would have the same radius as the coin.

Yep. That's what I'm getting, plus I just noticed this teeth marks on the collar of what looks like another attempt to snip.
Thanks

I have about a roll of 1920's and most are in better condition, and I'll hang on to this one as well, in my strange stuff pile.
Rest in Peace

Is the edge shiny or worn. Maybe it was sliced & diced many years ago.

it's worn. pretty much like the pic shows above. probably snipped along time ago.

It's hard to say on a coin that is that worn...I only want to point out that there are such things as incomplete planchets that were cut near the edge of a strip creating a straight and not curved "clip".

Thanks,
Bill

It could have been polished or carried in the pocket a number of years.

I've been seeing "clipped" cents on ebay that look like machine work and then artificially worn/toned--somebody's little cottage industry. That rim cut raises flags for me too. What's the edge look like--worn smooth?

I suspect that this is a legitimite straight clip that has circulated for a LONG time.
