Was taking a look at this penny and I noticed above "GOD" what looked like a die chip on each letter. After looking at it closer, and ignoring the Machine Doubling, I noticed the "G" appeared to be missing a section of the top of the letter. My first thought was PMD but it seemed like an oddly clean line to be simply worn down. Any thoughts on this. To be blunt, I'm not entirely positive on the die chip either so I just wanted to grab some outside opinions. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Looks like the copper plating in those areas has been breeched exposing the zinc core.

To CCF! Looks like a Split Plating issue. The zinc core is exposed. https://www.error-ref.com/split-pla...n%20affected.

I'm thinking some split plating, possibly associated with Die Deterioration.

Well split plating doesn't make the end of the G disappear. Could be just a partially filled die that made the G not get fully struck up.

I miss the missing G part. Could be from a Grease Filled Die issue as Marve65 said.

Thank you to everyone for the replies and the warm welcome. Split plating definitely seems to be the case and is exposing the zinc.

As far as the G is concerned, would most say that it is a result of PMD or as Marve65 said a partially filled die?
