I'm trying to determine if this is PMD or something that happened at the mint. The diagonal part of the 7 on the date looks like something hit it and moved part of it over but the moved part seems to be securely attached to the plating. I don't see a huge depression where the metal may have been damaged and shifted. Any thoughts?

Definitely PMD - a circulation hit on the 7.

These coins are solid bronze, not plated like zincolns.

Just PMD. Nothing in the minting process would cause this.

@cob, seeing that some of the metal from the number 7 has been "smeared" is a really good indicator that this is just damage. You'll start to recognize this as you look at more coins.
