I wanted a solid example of Longacre Doubling on a nickel, so I picked up this specimen for a few bucks. Before I put this into my reference library, I just wanted the nod from the pros that this is Longacre Doubling and not Machine Doubling.

I had also hoped that this coin might be a RPD, but I think that line next to the 1 is just a die crack to the 8.

It looks like it to me, but I am not the pro you seek.

@brand, I was kinda thinking that Longacre doubling is visible on both sides of the letters, but what I'm seeing here is only on one side. I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong, but my money is on this being MD instead.

Looks more like Machine Doubling to me than Longacre Doubling.

I forgot about it being on both sides, but I did say I was no pro.

BTW, that is not a Shield but a Liberty V

Doh. For some reason I keep typing out Shield instead of Liberty. I've been looking at both lately, trying to learn.
