In the money slabs can be good deals as well. Instead of searching through thousands of mint sets let someone else do it and you can often find the best for $20 to $40. In '81-S SBA's look for lack of marking. In the near date look for strike. The '80-D is easy in Gem but some of the nicer ones have a PL texture. The '79-S is tough well struck and mark free but forgive a little strike weakness and there are nice clean ones. I'd suggest you look for well struck by good dies and forgive a little marking. The '80-P often looks a little mushy in the mint set. I've never personally collected the '99's but they seem to be tough in Gem.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I saw the final coin I needed to complete my set on ebay yesterday and it was in Australia. It was closing yesterday and no one had bid, so I put in a small offer and added a higher limit. I missed by 25c.

Quote: You could hold an additional two pages of them in the album Not sure what way I'm gonna go yet. I know I kind of like the Sac dollars, too. I did get this over the weekend: I added the six Sacagawea dollars I already had to the mix, just to get an idea I'm not entirely sure if I'm gonna go this route out not. I may end up getting the proof album, and then just adding a few blank small dollar pages later on. I am planning to take a trip to a LCS tomorrow, so hopefully I'll find some nice SBA dollars.

That's very nice, Humanist1287. I've noticed that many are now interested in collecting the SBA dollars, including myself.

Thanks, friends! Okay, so, I also got an Dansco #8180 album which is with proofs. I mostly wanted to compare. I like the look of both, but I like the practicality of the #7180 album. I'm torn, though. Sadly, due to money constraints, I wasn't able to get over to the LCS to buy some SBA dollars. Next pay day! What do you think, jbuck, and also others? Regardless, I can an add an extra page or two for Sac dollars if wanted.

I like proofs and I will always prefer an album that has room for them.
I also like how the 8180 has nine per page just like the 8176 Ike album. And you have room for two pages of Sacs.

So you mean you would prefer the 8180 personally? I mean, obviously, they both have spots for proofs. Difference is being obviously one has labeled ports and one doesn't.

Yes, I prefer the 8180. If I were to do it again, that is the one I would get and I would add two blank pages for something else.

Yeah, I think I'll go this route. I only paid like, 8 dollars for the 8180 compared to the full price I paid with the 7180! I don't normally like doing proofs as much, but given that the SBA dollar is such a small series, this is one of the times I feel it's kind of warranted. The only other series I have done proofs with honestly is the Jefferson series, and that was only because I had the proof album on hand.

Proofs grow on you. I only needed proof in the Ike and Kennedy albums because those were the albums bought for me. Everything else was still in folders. I was buying proof sets from the mint to keep intact, but after I started getting more Dansco albums... those proof sets are no longer intact.

I really like the proof versions especially in clad coins. It brings out all the artistic details that you sometimes don't notice in the regular coins.

I really like the proof SBA dollars. The SBA dollar in general might be my favorite designed coin personally, if not in the top 3. I definitely don't look forward to purchasing that Type 2 1981, though. I am going to do it, though, as when I had a collection years ago I never purchased it. I think it was substantially more expensive then however. I seem to remember it being 300-400 dollars when I was looking on ebay. My memory might be fuzzy, though.
