Don't see any damage to rim which would lead me to believe it was a Rim Fin.
Plus, I was able to move the part of the object not embedded with a piece of paper, so unless a thin strand of wire, don't even know if it is metal.
Since there is other "damage" to that part of the coin, could it have been sturck through a fabric ribbon, and that's all which is left?

May take Marve's suggestion and send it off to ANACS to see what they say.
