Hello Everyone! One of the more interesting finds in my short CRH career! Looks like a stuck thru (thread?) with partial retention. Part to the right of the D can actually move. Not sure if the rest of the imperfections in that area would also be caused by some sort of struck thru. Appears there may be a small section of retention next to the E - which I didn't see until editing my pics. Though I do not see any listing for 2017P DDO, I'm thinking it looks like the eye could possibly be a candidate As always: Thoughts? Thank You p.s. I already gave the nickel an acetone bath. Sure wish it were in better condition!

@snail, how sure are you that this isn't some sort of metal fiber that was partially stuck to the surface of the coin after it left the mint?

It may need an acetone soak to make sure.

Spence; Honestly - no, I'm not sure! Here's another pic - shows the object embedded into the O on a better angle. But what about the rest of the "imperfections" through that area (part of my reasoning for struck thru) Also, what do you think about the eye? Thanks!

E&V Some gunk there - which is why I already gave it a bath - wanted to see if the object in question would wash off

Very strange - never saw anything like it before. Thought for sure it was just something stuck to the coins surface.

Is a struck thru something which can be sent off to get attributed? If so, I'll put this to the side and send it!

Sorry...but I think it's all PMD ("eye" might be a stain/toning) also you know acetone wont remove all things, sometimes you have to go further up the ladder (xylene). How long did you let it soak?

Greasy Fingers Xylene - thank you Soaked it for about 20 hours Couldn't really tell on the eye - didn't think it looked quite right for a DDO, not as well defined as I'm starting to look for. But, figured I'd ask everyone. Thanks!

Could it be part of a rim burr? have you looked to see if any part of the rim is damaged or missing?
and the eye appears normal to me..
