I agree it's tough to tell but here is a pic from PCGS that I enlarged the area in question. Don't forget that there is a pedestal under the chair. Anytime you are questioning the details of a particular coin, check out a high end coin on PCGS to compare, many times you will get your answer. It may be accentuated by plating issues too, this is a copper plated zinc coin that have many issues. See what you think.

Definitely not an idiot!!
I started roll hunting less than a year ago, and am on my third microscope upgrade - and it's still not as good as I'd someday like to have!
One thing which seems to help me as I learn: when I think I see doubling, I spin the coin to look at it with light hitting it from different angles. This alone has been enough to often show me the difference between true doubling and Die Deterioration Doubling. I also have a bunch of coins put to the side to look at again as I get better at distinguishing various things!
Enjoy the hunt!!

I also have a $15 microscope and it does well enough. I have the same one I bought 2 yrs ago. Lighting I found was a big concern. Have to get it just right which meant I had to check out different ways. The picture and lighting part of the forum has a lot of tips and tricks. You can make it work.
