Hey everyone, I'm new to submitting, but not new to business or strategy — and I think I may have landed a standout piece. This is a 1962 Jefferson nickel with Full Steps on Monticello and truly prooflike surfaces. I've submitted it to PCGS with FS and PL designations requested, and I'll post the grade reveal when it comes in. For now, I'd love your expert opinions: • Do you agree it's PL? • Possible MS66FS or better? • Worth CAC if it hits the right grade? Lighting was tough to capture the shine — reflections of colored objects are mirror-clear in hand. Appreciate any insights from the registry veterans, and if this coin checks the right boxes, I'll likely be auctioning it after grading. to the CCF Serious photo overload, clear in-focus images of both sides (once) will do. this is likely a Proof strike coin. Rather common alas at 3.2 million produced. PCGS does not recognize the designation PL for business strike nickels, so even if this were a business strike that submittal request will not be honored. It should come back PF66 - PF68. We could have saved you some $ if you checked in here prior to submitting.

Appears to be a standard 1962 proof nickel. Even without the mirror finish, the perfect steps give it away. No business strike nickels of that era have steps so deep or complete. No visible cameo, so I'd say about $7 in a PCGS slab.

Definitely a proof. The rims give it away.

Quote: Definitely a proof. The rims give it away. I actually chuckled out loud when I read that. You've got strong feelings about proof rims, jbuck! =) For your 200000th post contest, we should black out the faces of 100 coins, leaving only the rims. Then we can play Shiny Rims: Proof or Business? You're right, of course. And thanks to your tutelage in squared-off proof rims, I've picked some nice vintage Philly proofs off ebay at circulation strike prices.

Quote: I've submitted it to PCGS with FS and PL designations requested Too bad, that was a waste of money, but if it makes you happy that's all that counts.

@Outlawking702 - - As mentioned above, too many pictures. (what is that pinkish/red thing?) Certainly appears to be a proof 1962 nickel, but not worth cost of grading. Don't think you will get you money back through an auction.

The only way a 1962 proof nickel is worth grading is if it is CAM/DCAM. Plus it has a fingerprint on the obverse field.

I had actually assumed the orange thing was a safety earplug for loud working environments. =)
