You know how every once in a while you come across a coin that's a Diamond in the rough. Perhaps you found it on E-bay, Internet auction sites, coin shows or even at your local coin dealer.
Since the coin was RAW and you paid peanuts for it realizing it was a RARE Variety or highly under-graded / valued, you make the buy!
Every collector has a story sometime in their collecting life that they would like to get off their chest. One such event occurred for me on E-bay last year. An E-bay seller from Quebec had a "raw", 1913 Canada quarter for sale @ $400.00 U.S. on a BUY IT NOW for a 10 day auction. The scan was poor and I hummed and hawed about it for a week, however, I had a gut feeling about the coin as a result of it's appearance and previous knowledge about descriptive factors to look for when viewing raw coins via a poor scan.
So after banging my head against the wall for what seemed forever, I made the buy!
After receiving the coin in the mail, I was floored. It was a blast white beauty, light golden toning around the peripherals and near perfect fields. Coin sent to I.C.C.S. and 2 weeks later returned back to me as an Certified MS-64. Talk about having your socks knocked off, WOW what a rush that was. Now it's time to hear YOUR story!

Short version
Got both my 1942 Jefferson TY 1 and TY 2 proofs on ebay for peanuts from two different sellers.
I did my homework, I win the prize. I did not rub their noses in it for making out like a bandit, nor do I feel guilty.

And, Yes!! Wheezy, it's always O.K. to post your beautiful Jeffersons.

Mine came on ebay as well,

I came across an 1858 large cent, and while the picture wasn't great, I was struck by the detail showing in the queen's hair (the first thing I look for when trying to grade early Vickies). I ended up buying it for just over $500, expecting AU, and hoping for MS. I sent it to ICCS immediately upon receiving it, and it came back graded MS-62 Red-Brown. It's listed at $900 (and was $1200 until a few weeks ago).

Thank you, the marks are just reflections where it appears areas are darker in the fields and near the rim.
I plan to get a number of my earlier proof nickels graded sometime soon.

Wish you other people would post images as well of your diamonds in the rough.

Not a coin find, but I did get lucky on a banknote find recently.

I decided to put in the opening bid on a lot of "uncirculated" banknotes, assuming that if they were actually AU they would be worth it. Well I won the auction, the notes were mostly AU as I figured, although the one in best condition was a 1954 Beattie Coyne $1 note. But it wasn't the modified portrait, it was a devil's face portrait, and on top of that it was a last prefix.
