We have a raw 1877 P Indian Head cent (graded G), a 1900 P Barber dime (graded MS65) and a several other higher end coins that should probably be slabbed. Most of our coins aren't worth slabbing, although we do have a lot of Morgans and Peace dollars that were slabbed when we bought them. Which major TPG is best when it comes to price and service? I would go with PCGS because in my opinion they grade coins accurately and the resale price is a little higher because they do have a better reputation then the others. But keep in mind if you ask three different people your going to get three different answers. It's mostly personal preference. John1

I'm not sure of the price, try going to their web site. John1

There are lots of earlier Forum threads debating the merits of the different grading services. I prefer PCGS for consistency, resale value, guarantee, and market recognition. NGC comes in second IMO, followed by ANACS and ICG.

I find these stats interesting. The 4th column provides the average percentage paid of Greysheet Bid prices. PCGS is given a slight edge over NGC. The surprising stat is that ICG is way up over ANACS whereas many people feel ANACS is the best of the "2nd Tier" TPG services. Courtesy of the Coin Dealer Newsletter's April 2009 Greysheet.

Everything I've seen says that people go to PCGS when they want the best. The 1933 double eagle (the only legal one) was graded by PCGS. Having said that, I do like NGC's system of awarding stars for superior eye appeal. It's very useful for things like toned Morgans.

ICG got really tough recently so the newer slabs sell for more than the older ones in the same grade. Thats why I think that the ranked a little higher than ANACS in the comparison.

What is amazing is that the CDN still lists NCI and INS. NCI went out of business in 1990, and INS for all practical purposes went out of business in 1992.

My looking about puts PCGS and NGC as top tier. ANACS and ICG as second tier, with DGS as an up and comer (no personal experience). Also the first 4 and NCS will be the only places ebay will accept as certifiers for coins listed their site after 17 SEP.
