Hi. What would you do with this coin? Have it graded? With PCGS or NGC? Sell it now? Where and how? Dealer, online, auction? Hong Kong, US, Europe? How much to ask?

Sure, the weight is right. The question is how strong? And how to make it as strong as possible?

Also see if it sticks to a magnet. If it is silver, it will not stick.

Sorry, I wasn't clear in the initial post. Let's just assume it is genuine. What would you do if you wanted to sell it? Not that I want to do that, but I am just thinking of that scenario.

I would get it graded by an encapsulating service first before selling, it would fetch a good price. There are too many fakes about that put potential buyers off paying a good price for these.

I would be inclined to do that too. But with PCGS or NGC? And what would be the best channel to sell it? Dealer, online, auction? Hong Kong, US, Europe? How much to ask?

If it were mine, I would send it off to be graded - then it want's putting in an auction, probably in the US for the best price but there are quality auction houses in the EU too.

Before sending off to overseas, I would research about customs, fees and potential taxes in your country first. It's a bit pointless sending it off and something happens.
Stacks usually does a pretty big Chinese coin auction and they also do have a branch in Hong Kong.
Best of luck!

Great, maybe I'll write to Stacks just to see what they have to say. I think I should have it graded, but I'm still unsure if I should go PCGS or NGC. Some people say PCGS can fetch higher price but from what I saw it seemed NGC graded Chinese dollars get better results in auctions. What would you opt for? Also, do you think the coin could get a grade or will it get details like cleaned or something else?

Check if you have a coin dealer in your country or in EU that sends coins to the US on your behalf. Doing it personally can be expensive especially customs and insurance related. Regardless whether it's PCGS or NGC, both are pretty decent. Even if it's cleaned, it's still a pretty nice coin (assuming if it's genuine)
Or if you want to minimize headaches, send it to an auction house in Europe that takes the risk.

Before embarking in this ordeal I would check with some forum specialising in Chinese coins if they think it's authentic. Two of such forums are: https://www.yy11.com/bbs http://bbs.shouxi.com/forum.phpWon't be easy to register but definitely easier than shipping the coin across the globe. Good luck! PS: doesn't the patina on this coin reminds of someone dipping it in ink to artificially age it? Not saying this determines it's fake but just wondering what other members think? I remember a dealer mentioning this is/used to be a common practice.

Online can be difficult with just pictures only. It may be high quality counterfeit, it may be genuine. You may have some people that try to talk it down to buy it cheap. Who knows. At the moment, all I can say is that it looks positive that it's not some cheap counterfeit. There are some minor differences but it could be case of variety.
There have been instances in this forum where forum members posted some scarce Chinese coins. Many were sceptical, including myself but were proven wrong from time to time.
Regardless, it's risk vs reward.

Hi, thank you all for your suggestions. The coin is genuine and I know how to have it slabbed by PCGS or NGC. I'm in the EU and PCGS is in Paris and NGC in Munich, both a few hour drive from my place no prob. The question is which one is best for Chinese dollars or rather which would you personally opt for. @joe_77, thank you for the links to the Chinese forums, that could be really helpful. Are you registered there? It seems it's all in Chinese and that's all Greek (or Chinese?) to me. @Moniker I know Katz does that, but I'm not sure how reputable they are.
