Anyone know the value of this piece. I have had it for maybe 20 years and want to sell/trade.

Thanks,

Did you try numismedia.com using their fair market value price guide?
Rest in Peace

I'd grade it VF-35 or EF-40, with possible cleaning on the obverse (from the pictures).

For value, try heritage/numismedia, but I would get it slabbed by Anacs if you want to trade/sell it.

Agree with Shadow on the professional TPG....too many fakes floating around, maybe even 20 years ago when you got this.

Very much so, if only to assuage the potential buyers, who all know how common counterfeit Trade dollars are. These are very uncommon on the ground - almost the entire mintage of 1873-S went to China so nice circulated examples are scarcer than Mint State coins - and for the knowledgeable collector it's a real bargain at the $500-ish price you'll get for it in a reputable slab.

My guess at the price is just that - a wild guess. Heritage has record of only one original-surfaces XF 1873-S ever being offered. This is truly a Condition Rarity if the surfaces are original, and should be offered as such.

Thanks all, I guess I will ship it to NGC. I do believe it is authentic.

That is a nice looking coin - love the "circ-cameo" effect with the dark fields and lighter devices!
