Looks like Stack's Bowers Galleries has been chosen by the United States Mint to auction off 7 of the 12 space flown 2000-W Sacagawea dollars struck in 22 Karat gold aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia in July 1999. Coins are encapsulated by PCGS with special labels. Just like the 1933 St. Gaudens, the buyer will pay $1 to monetize the coin as legal tender upon sale.

Just in case anybody is going to be bidding ........... "Live bidding for these 22 Karat and 24 Karat gold Sacagawea dollars will take place on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 12:00PM EDT (9AM PDT). The auction will be hosted on the Stack's Bowers Galleries website https://www.StacksBowers.com and broadcast from Griffin Studios in the firm's Costa Mesa, California headquarters." "In recognition of this historic offering, Stack's Bowers Galleries will waive the Buyer's Premium on these special Sacagawea dollars, meaning that the highest bid on each lot (the hammer price) will be the final amount paid by the winning bidder (excluding shipping fees)."

I'm in............. I have a number in mind, but I don't think it's large enough (we'll see). Darn, I blew up my coin budget this month, thought about taking the next few months off to heel....Watched several Heritage "Space" Auctions and sometimes space flown stuff goes for reasonable prices IMO. But 7 of the first 12 Sacs struck.... You think the weight is the same 8.1 g ? Thinking out loud, if the 2025 25th Anz.1/2 oz went for $4,000+ do you think these are worth 10x..20x that or more?.... Then adding these 7 coins to a Registry Sets seems to be the sole purpose to bump up the hammer price.

Quote: You think the weight is the same 8.1 g ? From Stacks-Bowers: "These coins were struck in a Proof format on specially prepared 1/2oz gold planchets originally intended for the American Eagle bullion coin series." Quote: do you think these are worth 10x..20x that or more? I think that we'll all be stunned by the hammer prices. The gold content will not be a great consideration to the deep pockets that will be coming after them. Remember, there are only 7 of these available. It would not surprise me to see them go for six figures.

Quote: excluding shipping fees Which includes a handling fee that is suspiciously close to what the buyer premium would have been.

Yeah, as I was reading that the smart-ass part of my brain was thinking that waiving the BP was really big of Stacks/Bowers but figured there was no way those guys were gonna let that slide. I think you probably nailed it. If not, I hope they don''t read this post!
