We have threads running on finds from roll hunting dimes, quarters, halves, nickels and cents. But there is no thread that I could find in which everyone could discuss finds from circulation on Modern Dollars (SAC/SBA/PRES). So here goes. Hope this is popular. Before the Presidential dollars started, I was heavily searching dollars from circulation and would always find good stuff, like proofs, not intended for circulation (NIFC) SAC, and wide rim 1979 P SBA dollars. I think I have about 25 of the wide rim 1979 P. Unfortunately, with the huge number of Presidential dollars, it has made roll hunting less fun, because most of the rolls are now Presidential dollars, so the finds are becoming tougher. If you find anything cool, unusual, share it with us! I also would be interested in hearing whether anyone has found a "godless" Washington Presidential dollar variety from circulation. Good luck! To start this off: Got $25 mixed roll at the bank this week. Mostly Presidential dollars, including a couple of P mint marked 2008 (I live in "D" rich land, so that was unusual). Key find was a 2002 P SAC, I believe that is a NIFC coin. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct Sir! Very short circulation run on the Sacs. And you are correct again about the Presidential dollars taking away the fun. Awhile back I got a 2001S and a 2002D from roll searching! I have been saving wide rim SBA's for years but now the rolls are mostly presidents. And what about the Ike dollars? I know they are seldom found in circulation but I would consider them modern. (I picked up 4 at the bank thursday)

I bought four rolls of dollar coins from a bank this morning. One was a fresh roll of Tylers while the others were mixed. I scored a 1981S SBA! Must be from a mint set; it wasn't an impaired proof.

I just got $14 mixed, nothing interesting. Just a couple of SBA. I spent them at the farmer's market and the guy said I gave him a quarter and owe 75 cents. He thought the SBA were quarters.

I think NICF Sacagawea dollars started in 2002. Regardless, I have never seen a 2001 in circulation, nice find!

Yes, I think 2001P was NIFC, but 2001D was not, just like the JFK halves

I got a 2001-D Sac in my change from riding the Light Rail a few months ago, and I sent it to manilagalleontrade. I thought that he should have at least one nice but obviously circulated Sacagawea, and a 2001-D is unusual to see in change... I had not heard that the 2001-P Sac was NIFC... I thought that the 2002's were initially struck for business strike release to circulation, but that the production was stopped early and the existing business strike coins 'became' NIFC coins. The 2001-D JFK was definitely a business strike issue, my credit union still has four BU boxes of them and I got four of them in change that year! They were limited distribution in the western US, but Denver was one of the cities that got them.

The mintage figures seem to indicate that both Kennedy half dollar and Sacagawea dollars were at least intended to circulate, but did not for whatever reason after the fact. If they originally intended to circulate them, then they could not be called NIFC. Sacagawea Dollar Mintages
Year Philadelphia Denver
2000 767,150,000 518,920,000
2001 62,470,000 70,940,000
2002 3,869,000 3,733,000
Kennedy half dollars
Year Philadelphia Denver
2001 21,200,000 19,504,000
2002 3,100,000 2,500,000 Whatever happened, we can probably say the Philadelphia coins ended up being sold in direct ship that year; while the Denver coins were actually released to the banks. Edit: For those that feel it is Not Issued for Cirulation and not Not Intended for Circulation, then what I still makes sense, if the mint intended to issue them!

I went through 2 customer wrapped rolls today and found nothing "hoardworthy". One roll had around 15 1979 SBA's but no wide rim. A few of the Presidential dollars were looking brownish like the "sackies". I did get 3 40% halve out of 8 customer wrapped rolls...will go back for more in the morning!

I agree Jbuck! Guys, If in doubt about if it is or isn't NIFC, whip out your RedBook and check the mintage figures. I noticed a few entries in a Half dollar "finds" post that also incorrectly listed the 2001 as NIFC. (I must admit the 2001's have been very scarce in the boxes I've been searching)
