VG-10. I see a lot of 1909 Barber half dollar that get graded incorrectly. The LIBERTY on 1909's are in a protected area (unlike all other years), so the rest of the coin wears more before the LIBERTY starts to wear. You can't just grade a 1909 by LIBERTY

10 sounds right. I think it is on the lower end, better than a VG8 not quite VG10. I would round this one up because it is an unusually attractive problem free coin.

I hadn't heard that the 1909 had a different grading standard from other Barber half years. All letters of LIBERTY are partially visible, but this coin shows less head detail overall than what I'd expect from a Fine example. So, I'd agree that VG-10 is about right.

You have to factor in the reverse along with the LIBERTY being in a protected area on 1909 Barber half dollars (like talked about in David Lawrence's book).

I'm at VG-10 on this coin, per ericgreen's comments. The new hub introduced in 1909 strengthened LIBERTY, allowing it to be fully visible at lower grades. The design is just too weak to be F-12, regardless of TPG grade-flation.

I'm at a bourse floor VG-10 here. There are a few points where the details are stronger and a few that are weaker, but that's to be expected in this grade range. It's a nice coin for the grade, and I would expect some upward price haggling because of the eye appeal, but that wouldn't change the grade.

VG-10 first impression.

@IndianGoldEagle's example for a Fine-12 shows complete dentil separation. The OP example shows no dentil separation.
