This is the early 1840 Seated half dime with no drapery. I think it grades AU53 with a superb strike and it's worth about $300. It is not rare but still very desirable as a short lived type that preceded the regular Seated dime issuance. Yours is in excellent condition despite the obverse hits. Nice!

Thanks. It came from a farm that was built by one of George Mason's sons in Northern Virginia. I found a Large cent (no date), and an 1809 Half Cent on the same day. I have the Half Cent sitting in acetone at the moment. As you'd expect, the copper didn't fare as well as the silver.
