I was cleaning out the safe this weekend and came across this Lincoln Cent? Is that doubling? It is visible across the entire motto

Appears to be an issue of die deterioration--die deterioration doubling. What des the rest of the coin look like?

@worth, can you please tell us the date and mint for this cent? I'd like to include that information in the title to help improve the CCF search functionality. Thx!

What you're seeing is Die Deterioration Doubling, a worthless form of doubling. It happens when the die gets worn out from striking many Planchets.

I'll try to get a picture of the entire coin tomorrow when I have better light.

It is a 1955 P. That is, in part, why it caught my eye.

Thank you all for the insights

Yes, you are most definitely seeing double but not a doubled die, unfortunately one of the "worthless doubling".

While this particular piece might not get you seats on the 50 yard line at the Super Bowl, it might be fun to hang onto, if you like it.
