Great story. It also demonstrates that for some the cost and time to go through everything is far greater than that to evaluate and sell them. I recall the cost it was to empty my Mom's house and the weeks beforehand to donate and empty rooms to reduce the cost of the trash removal company to get stuff out of the house to sell it. Usually the price of the house exceeds the value of the collectibles most have. However, when I spoke to auctioneers, I was told to get the most money for collectibles and other items of some worth (furniture, etc), it is best to start the evaluation and auction process a year before one has to clear out a house for a new owner or even to just show well a house.

UPDATE: My niece just got the coins back from ANACS. I had them both at AU-58 and genuine. ANACS graded the 1915 at AU-55 straight and the 1927 came back as AU-58 (cleaned).

Thanks Smat45. My niece isn't really a coin person but her dad is. I suggested she gift them to her dad for his collection or at least hang onto them for a while to see if the value increases. She seemed a bit disappointed with the grades but I told her not to look a gift horse in the mouth. Be happy that they are genuine!
