Wow! It seems that everyone is happy, so all is right with the world. MisterT, your niece is very lucky!
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

These coins are so difficult to grade due to the incuse design. Also impossible to grade based upon pictures alone. The high points of wear for these are the cheek on the obverse and the top shoulder of the wing on the reverse. I honestly don't know what to make of them. The 1915 obverse looks MS to me but the reverse shows weakness on the leg and lower body and tail feathers. Could this just be strike weakness? The 1927 appears to show some slight rub to the cheek on the obverse. I suggested to my niece to send them off to anacs and at least let them certify them as genuine. For a total of $77 to slab both coins it seems a no brainer to me. What are your thoughts?

Dumpster diving brings back some old childhood memories. I used to dig in a dumpster next to my mom's workplace. There was a fishing lure store next door. Digging through discarded food & coffee grounds brings back all kinds of memories. I think I collected stamps out of that same dumpster. The company did a lot of mail orders.

My niece is taking my advice and sending them to anacs for grading. I'll see if I can update this thread when she gets them back.

I had the opportunity to evaluate the coins in hand, under the microscope, measured diameters(17.6mm) and thicknesses (1mm) Weight for each was 4.18grams. Specific gravity test was close at 16.92 but even a minute error in the calculation can account for this. No signs of pimples or tool marks in the deep area of the neck (usually found on counterfeits). I am convinced that they are genuine. As for grade I noted that both coins were well struck, slight rub to the Indian's cheek and jawbone. Slight rub on the upper part of the eagle's wing on reverse. Some hairlines in the fields but not crossing onto the devices I believe are from light circulation. I gave them a 2 hr. acetone soak, patted dry and placed in flips ready to be sent to ANACS. I helped my niece complete the submission form, provided safe shipping supplies and just waiting for her to send them off, tier 15 day service. Guess I'll see them in another month. My determination was Genuine AU-58. I'll update when they come back.
