Tonight's Find! Nickel has two places where it appears (to me) to have heavy Struck Thru Object. Was difficult to get good pictures (sorry). But, for the size of these spots, there should be massive amounts of pushed metal - I don't see any. Also, the Obverse, opposite the top of column 4, shows no damage that I can see. I would imagine that a PMD hit that extreme might show on the obverse. Also has quite the field of die gouges Thoughts? Thanks!

Quote:Well, lots of Feeder Finger Damage there. I looked through coop's post (Thank You), I can see what I called "field of die gouges" being Die Scrapes (they're in the correct direction, etc. Just trying to figure out the other two spots. I'll have to research Feeder Finger Damage. Thank You, Brandmeister.

Another nice find, you are on a roll! This might be a good one for Mike Diamond to check out. The missing devices are interesting to go along with the Feeder Finger Damage.

From the Error-Ref article linked by E&V: Quote: The foreign matter is a gritty paste that is spread onto the die face by a feeder that is coated with the substance. The resulting pits and channels that appear on the face of the coin show a consistent directionality mirroring the movement of the feeder. The pits and channels may be surrounded by a shallower, more diffuse area (the smooth portion of the chunky peanut butter-like substance). The pits and channels may co-occur with die scrapes traveling in the same direction. These are also caused by the feeder. The Monticello building isn't technically the field, but on the die it represents a large, shallow cavity that is probably equivalent to the fields. I am continually impressed by the obscure error sub-types that you guys can apparently recall from memory. =)
