I cant post variety vistas 1972-d DDO Eisenhower dollar listings and cant even get full photo of coin but this is what I have on top of 1 in date shows tripling or even quad it looks like a grinning dog and on the 7 and 2 of date it looks like hub doubling but I looked at Dr james wiles research of Eisenhower dollars he put it as mdd-like as a marker thank for your understanding

The doubled serif on the 1 appears on many (but not all) 1972 Ikes. I have a small stack of Philly dollars with that notch. If memory serves, Wexler called it series doubling, because although it was probably a doubled master hub or die, there might have been multiple masters in use. The notch appears on both Philly and Denver of that year.

Confusingly, the doubled 1 also appears alongside some doubled dies that have doubled features in other obverse areas.

I believe it is both. DDO and Machine Doubling.

Well it could be that as well, have you seen this before jbuck? I cannot find anything on VV for the 2, but that split serif on the 1 is on every listing on VV All 3 mints (PDS)

The serif on the 1 is DDO (or master doubling or whatever replicates) and the 2 is from MD.

Just because a die with doubling is used does not mean the machine is going to behave.

I will try to remember to look at mine under magnification the next chance I get. I cannot tell from my photos, but I see hints of this on a couple of them.

Feel free to check for yourself. Link in the signature.

I had a chance to sit with my Ikes this weekend and it appears that all but one of my clad uncirculated 1972 Ikes has this notch on the one in the date. So, I have to admit BM was on track here.
