This one looks lightly circulated to me. I'll say AU. There also could be a weak strike on the breasts of the eagle. I wonder if the coin was ever dipped at some point?

AU-55. Don't shoot the messenger NS, just my opinion based on the breaks in surface texture, color and signs of wear on all the high points on both sides.

Yes, I agree, it does look somewhat circulated... I'll go: AU-50 because my AU-55 looks sharper than this...

Weak central strike, but the obverse wear looks more like AU-53 to me. The reverse has an EF-45 appearance, but with the obverse having much less wear, most of the reverse weakness has to be strike weakness. The concentric circles on the reverse are an issue, but interesting. Maybe an old casino coin? I can't tell if it has been cleaned. Overall, I'm at AU-53, probably details from the long scratches on the reverse from the arrows to the upper left wing (our visual right). The 1879-S is loads of fun to VAM. A complete VAM set for this date would be almost a lifetime career.

AU55. This coin caught my eye because of the overpolished dies.
