$50. #10 of 35 Morgans purchased recently. The quality of coins coming out of the New Orleans Mint really do not compare well to those struck at the San Francisco and Philadelphia Mints. Thoughts? Thanks!

This one looks lightly circulated to me. I'll say AU.

It's either AU-58 slider or MS-64. Can you get new photos with brighter lighting?

Updated the original post with 2 additional pictures. I have still have trouble sometimes showing the luster of the coin throughout the entire coin, even using 2 light sources. I think the second set of pictures captures the luster on the other, left hand side of the coin. The coin is lustrous throughout, but the strike quality of this New Orleans Mint product is inferior to those from Philly and San Francisco.

Even taking into account the New Orleans strike, this Morgan looks like it has seen a little handling. I think it is somewhere in the mid-AU range.

New Orleans produced some of the most beautiful prooflikes and some of the flattest pancakes. New Orleans was both a Mint and a Bullion Depository. Mint-sealed bags from New Orleans sometimes had circulated coins added to new coins to "level up" the bag. That head-scratcher was discovered during the silver rush. This coin has the look of a lightly circulated coin, especially the hair over the eye and the eagle's wingtips. Add me to the AU-58 camp here.

the 86 thru 97 N.O. strikes all fall in the soft-weak box. there are some exceptions but this is a good representation when looking at those years. there are few years outside that where they are know for weaker strikes. the 86 can range from soft to average when it comes to strike. i'd say this one is pretty good for the year.

I'm at a 55 or 58 grade. maybe the lower end due the subdued luster and field rub on both sides
