Driving to Cape Cod this afternoon, I stopped at a branch of the regional bank that I regularly visit on the North Shore because a teller told me she had two rolls of half dollars. Initially I wasn't impressed when I purchased them because the coins were in modern wrappers. But my attitude changed when I opened the end of one roll and saw the reverse side of a silver coin. These two rolls contained nine 1964 Kennedy half dollars and 10 coins that contain 40% silver. The teller received two Starbucks gift cards.
The odd thing is that the other coins in these rolls dated from 1971 to 2023. I suppose someone inherited a cache of silver coins and mixed them with common half dollars before depositing the rolls at this bank.
