Today I drove a relative to a hospital in downtown Boston for shoulder surgery. On the way to lunch, I stopped at the downtown branch of a regional bank and asked if they had any half dollars. The young teller told me that because I am not a customer of this bank, I could buy only $10 of loose coins. But she changed her mind while she was counting them and said I could purchase $20.

The other teller asked me if I collected coins. "Yes", I replied. "Especially older coins." Then the first teller said she would look through all the half dollars in her tray and select the "older" ones for me. While she was doing that, I could hear and see the silver coins she was setting aside. She even announced when she found a coin minted during "the 1960s" (bless her heart).

I found 11 Kennedy half dollars that contain 40% silver among the 40 coins I purchased from her. I went next door, bought a $10 Starbucks gift card, and thanked her for kindly selecting the "older" coins for me.

What a streak! I've found coins that contain 51+ ounces of silver since mid-September.

Truly an extraordinary run, although your diligence in checking all those banks is impressive.

Another nice bunch, congrats! It's cool the teller changed her tune as the conversation went on. In sales by chance?
