How does everyone feel about Liberty nickels? I have a blank page at the back of my Buffalo nickel album dedicated for these. This is such a short set! It's even shorter if you don't do the key dates, which seem to be 1885, 1886 and 1912-S. I came across a fairly inexpensive Dansco Liberty nickel album recently, at least compared to the ridiculously priced ones that they have since it's no longer in production currently. I can't see a scenario where it's worth it though to purchase an album like this lol not for one page. These are pretty interesting coins, though. I've went back and forth to whether I should continue adding more to the set or not.

Good use of a extra page.

I think Liberty nickels are a relatively attractive design. However, I don't particularly like any series with restrictive key dates. The first year 1883 No Cents coins are abundant in AU grade, so I have picked up a few examples at great prices. Many other years are available in very worn condition, but I don't find those coins attractive for an album. I agree that an extra blank nickel page could benefit from a few nice examples of Liberty nickels.

I was a big fan of Liberty nickels for a long time, and actively collected them. I set a really challenging goal - a complete set in problem free AU condition. Most Liberty nickels in the market today are either MS or very worn, so the AU requirement really raised the difficulty level of finding the coins. It took almost 10 years but I finally completed the set, with many (most) coins cracked out of PCGS slabs and stored raw in a Dansco album. Here are some photos of the key dates: 1885 and 1886 (Ex-PCGS AU55) Here I am cracking out the 1885: 1912-S (Ex-PCGS AU50) I sold the completed album to a very interested collector for significantly more than I paid for the coins. It was great fun to hunt for them.

I only have the two in my 7070. A set would be nice though.

Quote: That 1912-S is a beauty! Thanks Brand - it was one of my favorites in the set. Well struck with lots of luster (which is not apparent in my poor photos). Here is a photo of the entire coin: I cracked it out of a PCGS AU50 slab:

Nice Liberty nickels! I'll have to eventually assemble a set. I've only got two so far in my collection.
Errers and Varietys.

i enjoy the Liberty nickel design. old-timey, Liberty on the coins instead of a dead president... I just don't want a collection of them. I like having a couple in the 7070, but that's it.

They've never excited me, and I never even had a Blue Whitman folder for them even though had one for just about everything else. I did grab a Dansco with 23 coins in it for $16.90 back in 2014. It was a 2 page album for a 1 page set, so I used the second page in a Jefferson Dansco. It was too good of a deal to pass up, and I fill a hole occasionally with my ebay deals. Missing 5 now I think..........I'll not lose any sleep over it...

I couldn't see buying the album just for one page unless your into collecting albums. I did the blank page in the back of my Buffalo album as well ( I think I got the idea from you ). I may at some point buy just the printed page if they become available just to make it look pretty then repropose my blank page. I had a few from when I first was collecting coins but I'm not actively working on the set. I did get a couple when I got the blank page and moved them over. I tried to find ones with some or most of the Liberty showing but I know that won't be the case with the key dates.

Quote: I have a low cost set with all the dates, but mine are in a Whitman album I mean, it couldn't be too low cost if you have the key dates! Lol. That said, fantastic set, hfjacinto. At least with Whitman they have it as a two page album, with each port having labels. Quote: I couldn't see buying the album just for one page unless your into collecting albums. This is one of the annoyances I have with Dansco compared to Whitman. A two page album, with only ONE of the pages having labels for me is a massive waste of time/money/space. If it has at least two pages, then that's fine I guess. I would also honestly prefer to just be able to purchase the one stand alone page for Liberty nickels and add it wherever. But, of course, Dansco is out of stock of them. If I could, theoretically, I'd have an album possibly consisting of a page for Shield nickels and then one for Liberty nickels. But, that's definitely a losing battle considering you can't find the page for Shield nickels either and there doesn't seem to be any Dansco MM pages that will fit them that are available right now. Lol. Also, what's up with the Liberty nickels that are nearly black?
