Just came across this double, obverse, die dent. First die dent I've found on the obverse - so figured I'd share.

Thank You, Dearborn Quote: Hubbed In Debris? E&V Some of these things seem so close! On one hand, seems like a die dent, because it goes "under" the coat collar. On the other hand, it goes "over" Jefferson's chin, like the H.I.D. example. So, honestly , I'm not sure! But, I think I'll go with the die dent.

Wouldn't you need to find two to confirm hubbed in debris?
Definitely interesting, those are rather large features. Good eye. =)

Thank You, Brandmeister. Having just reread the description of H.I.D. a little slower , would apparently need the following attribute to be considered H.I.D. Quote: raised imperfection that continues from the field to the design with no loss of clarity or relief Since this does not go over Jefferson's coat, it therefore can't be H.I.D.

Very interesting and cool! As far as what it is, others would know better than me.

E&V; Thank You for prompting me to re-look at error-ref Each time I re-read a description, I have a little better understanding of what it means!

Quote: You mean two coins struck from the same die pair? That's what I originally thought but that makes no sense! You don't need 2 nickels struck from the same die pairs to prove a die dent so why would you need 2 to prove HID?

I may be out in left field here but I'm not so sure that this is not a counter clash. The location I am showing may not be right either, it may be from another spot but something to think about.

My thinking was that hubbed debris would be present from the very start of the die and thus be easier to find multiple examples. A die dent happens during the usage cycle, so it might be harder to find repeat coins.

What's that bit over on Jefferson's chin? Is that also raised?
This has such a strange shape for a die dent. I can't quite see the counter clash theory, just because the shape doesn't quite seem to line up with the existing features.

Quote: I'm not so sure that this is not a counter clash Hmmm....interesting! Location you showed looks close, but not quite (to me). I'll have to look at that possibility. Brandmeister; If you mean the spot on the lower anomaly between the black and green arrows, which sort of looks like doubling, that is the part of Jefferson's chin which normal.
